PRISON TAILS HELPS VICTIMS OF HOUSE FIRE

On Tues 1/26/10, I received a message to call the Red Cross concerning a house fire and the owner’s 6 dogs & birds.  I called them back and found out that the woman lived in the home with her boyfriend and 6 dogs ranging in age from 2.5 yrs to 11 yrs.  3 females (mom & two daughters ages 11 & 9) and 3 males (ages 7, 5, and 2.5)  They were able to get out of the house with one car, the animals, and ID.  They were staying at the M.C. Red Roof Inn with all of the dogs but were only permitted to have 2 dogs at the hotel.  (The birds went with a friend)  I went over there that evening with the intent to help out with the girls for some temporary boarding but decided to also take the youngest male as he was in desperate need of training!  He was doing a lot of barking and had never had a collar or leash on before.  (Very similar to an 80# fish on a line, out of the water and screaming:)  Drama King!  So, I put all 4 dogs in the backseat of my truck and let WCC know that I was on my way.  With the help of my dog handlers on R dorm, we bedded them down safely for the night.  On the way home, I stopped back by the hotel to drop off some dog food, bowls, and treats for the 2 remaining dogs.  The next day, all received a bath and nail trim.  On thur, I took the 3 ladies (Jamie, Star, & Midnight) over to P dorm where there is more room for housing but left the male (Luke) on R dorm for some intense training.  We will hold the dogs for a short time while their owner catches her breath and takes stock of what she will do next.  The plan is for all 4 dogs to return to their owner once her home is back in order.  All my dog handlers are happy to help out and I have no doubt that all 4 dogs will receive the best of care.  Kudos to them for taking my zany antics in stride.  They never know what I may throw at them but they enjoy the challenge and the added responsibilities.  Good Job Guys!
