“Before I was accepted into Prison Tails as a trainer I
was on the disciplinary dorm. I had been in and out of trouble for the 4
years that I had already done. I was argumentative towards the staff and
really didn’t care. Since my hiring 15 months ago, my outlook has
changed. I feel I am doing something that is helping these dogs and
society in general. I have been pretty much staying out of trouble. I
really enjoy training the dogs and I have a friend that is there for me
regardless of what’s going on around us. This type of program creates a
positive atmosphere in a place where everything is meant to be negative.
I think the dogs give us some responsibilities, that gives us a positive
outlook and a better chance at rehabilitation.” - Ed Moore |

“Prison Tails has been great for me as an inmate. Before this program
I had nothing to do but sit idle all day long. Now that I have a dog, I look at this
time as being able to become more responsible. I have a dog to take care of which may
help me be a better, responsible father as this is how I look at what I’m doing
now – raising a child, and teaching it right from wrong. This program has been very
therapeutic and at the same time puts me through everyday choices both good and bad.
I appreciate all everyone has done to keep this program going. I would highly
recommend this program to inmates and dog lovers. - Josh Miller

“Life before Prison Tails was spent in
maximum security prisons. Always dull, always focusing on the negative.
Violence and hate never any positive information or results.
Prison Tails has improved my quality of life. Refocused my good
qualities, learning my mind, applying what I’ve learned in positive
ways.
Most of all, the dog has taught me to trust and love again, also to
smile. I’ve done a lot of reading on dog training and techniques.
Watching these techniques work on all the different dogs I’ve had the
privilege of working with has been the most gratifying. Improving a
dog’s life, and my own.”

I was in
prison for 15 days before becoming a dog handler. This is my first and
only time I’ve been in prison and the first days were eye openers. I
had nothing to keep my mind occupied and so many guys around and much
drama. When I got over to the dog program I now had something & someone
to care about. I knew I love dogs and the thought of training them &
helping them find good homes was close to my heart. I’ve been through a
few dogs and have seen several I’ve worked with get homes. This makes
me happy and working with and having a dog makes each day better. I
feel I’m doing something to help and not just wasting my life in
prison. - Mike Tevlin

knew some things about dogs but now
I know so much more. I’ve really learned a lot about basic training.
I’ve learned to look for sicknesses with the dogs also. The program made
my whole outlook on dogs better. I really enjoy the program and hope to
learn even more as I go. I really enjoy the program and hope to learn
even more as I go. I really like learning about different breeds of dogs
and from what country of origin the dogs come.

I was working a union labor job making $36 an hour
when I got separated from my wife. I was a mess, didn’t care about
anything, not even myself. When I came to prison, I heard of a program
called Prison Tails. I said, “That’s what I want to do, train dogs.” Not
only am I training dogs, I am learning patience, how to care and how to
love again. Its been a big, big help to me. If you can get the same
chance I got, take it, it will help. - Jason Johnson

Before I came into Prison Tails It was a
very stressful thing for me. Without much to look forward to, no goals,
now my stay is more relaxing and I have goals with the dogs. Along with
feeling better about myself and what I’m doing, the dogs give lots of
love and hope. It has really helped me and taught me so much that I
never knew, and taught me patience. I feel it’s great and should
continue to help others as it has helped me.

Before I was in Prison Tails I was living day by day
and it sucked really bad. It has gotten better because I have my friend
my dog and something I’m working for, a goal. I have dog for 8 weeks and
it is surprising how fast it goes by. Before it seemed to take forever
for 8 weeks to go by and now the weeks are flying by. It also has taught
me to have more patience in live along with dealing with other people
and the C.O. too.

Before I
came into this program, I kind of was depressed and feeling kind of
worthless. I was laying around not doing much. When I came in to
Prison Tails I felt like a different person. I feel like I am depended
on, while at the same time I feel like I am accomplishing goals. I am a
dog lover and now I have my best friend with me all of the time. - Kenny
